Rebirth the City
Rebirth the City is a community-based nonprofit initiative designed to help children remain prepared for school, connected to educational support, and supported by stable families. The organization responds to barriers that can interfere with a child’s ability to learn. These barriers may include food insecurity, housing instability, transportation challenges, limited access to technology, and the lack of affordable after-school support. Through community partnerships and future mobile outreach, Rebirth the City will bring tutoring, nutrition assistance, educational resources, and family-support connections closer to children and families throughout DeKalb County.
Rebirth the City helps children remain ready to learn, ready to grow, and ready to succeed—regardless of the barriers their families may be facing.
RTC Learning
RTC Learning is designed to provide accessible academic support for children who need additional help in reading, mathematics, homework completion, technology access, and overall school readiness. The program is intended to reach children who may not have consistent access to private tutoring or traditional after-school programs. This includes students experiencing housing instability, transportation barriers, frequent school transitions, food insecurity, or limited access to educational technology.
Services may include
- Reading and mathematics tutoring

- Small-group academic instruction
- Literacy and numeracy development
- Technology and digital-learning assistance
- Books, school supplies, and educational materials
- Academic enrichment and STEM activities
- Summer learning support
- Parent communication regarding student progress
- Support for children living in hotels, temporary housing, or unstable living situations
How services may be delivered
RTC Learning may operate through partner schools, churches, housing communities, extended-stay properties, community organizations, and the future RTC Mobile Hub. Programs may be delivered after school, on weekends, throughout school breaks, and during the summer.
Program goal: The goal of RTC Learning is to reduce barriers to academic participation and provide children with consistent, supportive learning opportunities outside of the traditional school day.
RTC Nutrition
RTC Nutrition addresses the connection between hunger, family instability, and a child’s ability to concentrate, participate, and succeed academically. Children cannot be expected to learn effectively when they are hungry or uncertain about their next meal. Nutrition support will be incorporated into tutoring, after-school, weekend, and future mobile community programming.
Services may include:
- Nutritious meals and snacks during programming
- Weekend food bags
- Emergency family food assistance
- Grocery boxes
- School-break and summer food support
- Microwave-friendly food for families living in hotels
- Mobile food distribution
- Referrals to food-assistance programs
- Nutrition information and family resources
- Hygiene products and other essential items when available

RTC Families
RTC Families will connect parents and caregivers with community resources that can help address the conditions affecting a child’s educational stability. Rebirth the City recognizes that tutoring alone may not be enough when a family is also experiencing housing problems, transportation barriers, food insecurity, school-enrollment challenges, or difficulty locating public and nonprofit assistance.

- Family-needs screening
- Housing and shelter referrals
- School-enrollment assistance
- Food-resource connections
- Transportation-resource referrals
- Childcare-resource referrals
- Public-benefit and community-resource navigation
- Veteran and military-family referrals
- Clothing, hygiene, and school-supply assistance
- Digital-access referrals

- Connections to county, state, nonprofit, healthcare, and community providers

RTC Families provides information, resource navigation, referrals, education, and follow-up. The program does not represent itself as a licensed clinical, legal, financial, or government-benefits provider.
The goal of RTC Families is to help parents identify resources, complete referrals, and reduce family barriers that can interfere with a child’s attendance, academic progress, and participation in community programs.

The RTC Mobile Hub will allow Rebirth the City to bring educational supplies, technology, tutoring resources, meals, food assistance, and family-support information directly into communities where transportation and access are barriers.
